Being a Photographer

It take more than owning a “good camera” to make one a photographer, it takes a talent that is hard to teach. Just like an artist, one must have an “eye” for composition and the knowledge of how the camera can capture “light” in order to preserve that composition the way the eye saw it. In the digital world, it also takes the knowledge of how to work with that photograph after the camera has captured it with the software that is available today to enhance the photograph.

Being a Professional Photographer takes a business license, Business and Professional Liability Insurance, and more equipment than the average hobbyist. It also takes a better than just a “good camera” and with a backup. It takes the knowledge of how to run a business so that that business will be here next year to service the returning client with new photographs or for additional orders of the ones already taken.

Being a Portrait Photographer also takes the ability and patience to work with people, to make them feel at ease, to pose and smile and the artist’s eye and experience to capture and enhance them at their best.

Being a Wedding Photographer takes the knowledge of the Portrait Photographer and years of experience of attending and shooting weddings. The photographer must anticipate what might happen next and be ready for it. A Wedding Photographer has to work with people that are nervous and excited. The Photographer will walk into so many different lighting and background conditions that only training, experience and the right equipment will produce the best wedding photographs.
